Men And Esthetics School Training And Experiences

By Esme Spence

Men often enjoy their work in esthetics (or aesthetics) and joining an esthetics school. After they get some fascination with the area, though, some men might feel uncomfortable. Why? For many years it's been a business dominated by women. Nonetheless, at present it's become not too unusual to discover a man enrolled at a laser institute or an esthetics school. The male experience in esthetics can be a great one. But this could be a shock to those who still find it to be an industry primarily for women.

First, we will talk a bit about why a man enrolling in esthetics school is a more common occurrence nowadays. Second, we shall examine one esthetician's experience that shows it may not be perfect being a man at a beauty school. Third, we will look at the comments of some men who have been or will be estheticians and thought that being a man truly was good for them in the industry.

It is actually becoming more widespread for men to earn certifications at beauty schools. Why is that? Generally speaking, cosmetic solutions have grown to be more universally accepted for men to give and receive. Men have become more recognized in both occupational and clientele roles in beauty. This wide acceptance of men in a beauty area that mostly only women had previously dominated has enabled more men to get involved and earn work and respect in this field.

Some men have suggested it is not really always that great to be a man at an esthetics school, while much support may have been found by other men trying to register in a laser institute or other programs. One man explained that he thought there had been many reasons it had been difficult. Among the problems he mentioned was what he called a battle of the sexes among a number of the female members of his classes and himself. Being such a small minority in nearly any situation may be quite difficult. Thus men who choose to go this way should ensure that they are willing to perhaps feel very isolated at times.

Multiple male aestheticians or men enrolled in esthetics school have commented positively on men in this market. One man has said that he is a retired esthetician, and he explained that being a man was a benefit to him. Another man said he was recently graduated from an aesthetics college and elaborated how it was a plus for him, also, to be male. He said that he was somewhat a novelty in his region as a man, and that many female clients appreciated his male perspective on what he did. He also said that being a man helped him get a job offer from a cosmetic surgeon just after graduating in esthetics. He also said that he is happy to see men arriving at a more pleasant environment in the beauty business than they had before.

Men might face some issues because of their sex as they attend a laser institute or an esthetics school, but they can also find some competitive advantages, as well.
